A.D. 2045. Decades had already passed since humanity began migrating into outer space. The "Macross 7," a long-distance colonization fleet that had departed Earth seven years prior and continued its voyage toward the center of the galaxy, was suddenly attacked by an unidentified combat force. This occurred on the night of the debut concert of the rock band "Fire Bomber," featuring Mylene, the youngest daughter of Macross 7 Captain Max. As emergency alarms blared, band member Nekki Basara suddenly took to the combat airspace in a red Valkyrie. Driving speaker pods into friends and foes alike, Basara finally began to sing. For what purpose does he sing? And what is the true identity of the mysterious enemy?

During an experiment with "Song Energy," Basara senses a "Song Heart" within a sudden, distant roar. Seeking its true identity, he takes off into space alone. On a remote planet, he discovers that a sound the villagers fear as the "Cursed Howl" is the same as the roar he heard. Alongside a boy named Pedro, he tracks down the source of the voice: Emilia, a rogue Zentradi girl. Basara finds a kindred spirit in the girl, who has been practicing her singing alone, believing in the power of song. However, under orders from Gepernich—who has judged her voice to be "Abnormal Spiritia"—Gabil arrives leading Glavil and Natter-Valgo! As Gabil attacks with the forbidden "Trinity" technique, what will Basara and Emilia do?
